Open and closed in York Region on Canada Day

Malls such as Vaughan Mills and CF Markville will be open Canada Day while banks will be closed.

We’ve put in our time. We’ve bundled up, scraped ice off of windshields, shovelled driveways, and braved the bitter, bitter cold. Now, finally, it’s here. We get our reward … that beloved time of year — the warm sunshine, the freedom of T-shirts and shorts and of course the excitement of fireworks and celebrating. Canada Day!!! Now down to practicalities: What can we do on Canada Day? Where can we go? What’s open and closed? Here’s some information for you:


OPEN

RETAIL

  • Malls: Most malls in York Region, including Vaughan’s Vaughan Mills and The Promenade Mall, Markham’s CF Markville Mall and Newmarket’s Upper Canada Mall will open on Canada Day (July 1) from 11 a.m. to 6 or 7 p.m.

SERVICES

  • GO Transit: Will operate on a Saturday schedule. Visit gotransit.com for more details.
  • York Region Transit: All YRT services and TTC routes in York Region will follow Saturday schedules. For more information, go to yrt.ca or call the York Region Transit contact centre at 905-762-2100 or toll-free at 1-866-668-3978 for more information on the routes you are interested in.

Community centres, libraries and other recreation facilities:

SERVICES

  • Canada Post: Canada Post is closed on national, provincial and territorial holidays, with no collection or delivery of mail on those days. So, there will be no mail delivery on Canada Day.
  • Banks: Canada Day is a national holiday so most banks will be closed.
